Joseph Melookaran
Joseph Melookaran is a certified public accountant, entrepreneur, and civic leader who has spent over thirty years building businesses and serving communities. His ventures include a CPA firm, a financial advisory practice, and JMA Information Technology Inc., which grew to have offices across the United States and in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Tokyo before being acquired in 2018.
Joseph co-founded the Asian American Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City, served as president of the International Relations Council of Kansas City, and held leadership positions in multiple civic and faith-based organizations. His work focused on fostering unity among diverse communities and creating economic opportunities for Asian Americans.
From 2004 to 2007, Joseph served under President George W. Bush on the Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. He was the lead author of the commission’s report to the president, a policy roadmap titled “Enhancing Economic Opportunities for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.” His recommendations influenced federal approaches to supporting Asian American communities nationwide.
Joseph immigrated to the United States from Kerala, India, in 1983. His journey from taking humble jobs to becoming a presidential appointee shapes his perspective on resilience, faith, and service. He believes success is measured not by what you achieve for yourself but by how you help others rise.
